Chup-chup, chack-chack

The moth trap was virtually empty with just Large Yellow Underwings (5) and Common Marbled Carpet (1)  - I think that's it until next spring. The usual gulls heading inland silently and six northbound Pied Wagtails; a Chiffchaff was calling from next door.

Quiet to start with  at Butser with heavy overcast but luckily pretty still and dry conditions. A few Redwings heard and a couple of Tree Pipits plus eight or so Skylarks, three Green Woodpeckers and a handful of Chiffchaffs - I wonder how many Yellow-brows or better slip through all of this habitat.

Some quiet chupping and chacking overhead alerted to 11 Ring Ouzels dropping in followed by four then seven and continuing around anticlockwise birds were heard and glimpsed. Sadly, they'd virtually all vanished into the scrub. One sat up and gave fair views (female or juvenile) and a couple more at least were close by in the scrub northeast of the cafe. Certainly 22 birds minimum but I'm guessing other birds must have already arrived well before my 9am start.

Sadly, no photos today.

Clich here to hear
