Non birding day

Started with a flyover Grey Wagtail whilst loading the car; this species has been ubiquitous in recent weeks even well away from water.

Later at QECP the cold cloudy weather ensured zero insect activity and birdlife was very unobtrusive with just 'heards' of Coal Tit, Bullfinch and Firecrest, probably two of each. Three very high overflying thrushes ( blackbird type rather than any other species), were silent and, with no bins, remained unidentified.

Checking out Butser briefly produced no Ring Ousels although with so many elsewhere and so much suitable habitat, there must have been some in there.

First calling and overflying Lesser Redpoll, Siskin(2) and Redwing(2) of the autumn,
one Green Woodpecker, two Buzzards, ten or more Meadow Pipits and twenty plus House Martins, the latter dropping by just as the sun broke through.

Unsurprisingly, just one Red Admiral and no other obvious insects.
