Some periodic ramblings about bird, butterflies, moths, dragonflies, hovers and anything else that pops into my head.

Gotcha!!... well only just.
Just a few (20ish) Swifts on way to PB adjacent to Ivy Lake; double that number over the northern pits on the return journey.
On site this Nightingale was hiding along the zigzag, just five Lapwing chicks and a few more Swifts plus three hirundine spp. Raptor wise just kites, Buzzards, Kestrels and eventually Hobby (from the tea terrace).
It was interesting to watch eight Shelduck arrive on the south brooks only to be chased off by the slightly 'psychotic' Egyptian Goose parent - they really are the most bad tempered of birds.
Male Broad-bodied Chaser was first of the Spring plus a few Hairies on both sides of the reserve. Nothing hover wise and just Tachina fera of note amongst Diptera.
At Black Pond, the sky was overcast and this Downy Emerald was too mobile for a qualty photo but just managed this flight shot showing enough details - gotcha!! - it was typically chasing after and being chased by both Four-spot and Hairy. Still, pleased to see it here after dipping at Blashford and Burton Pond.
This one female Adder remained on the bee hotel but took shelter during a few drops of rain; and finally another kite over Bury Hill on the way home.
