Wood-stripping wasp |
Slightly less individuals and less variety than yesterday but a massive surprise (literally!) in the form of this Privet HM one egg-box layer down. Despite being 'freezered' for ten minutes while going through the rest of the catch, it didn't even slow down, warming up and heading off within a couple of minutes.
Nothing else new or of note.
At TH, birdwise pretty quiet bar a calling Cuckoo, 25+ Swifts and both harriers which flushed ten Black-tailed Godwits. Plenty of hovers with Chrysotoxum festivum the best and a Hyleaeus hyalinatus near the cafe pond. Two Southern Marsh Orchids along the boardwalk were the first I've seen this year.
Luckily, the Pennington Marsh Sandpiper seemed to have decamped with no sightings today, prompting me to check BJ where the only UK sighting being 28 years ago at Sidlesham; Ivor commented he'd seen the same bird!!
Back at 'base' another Xanthogramma pedisequum, a Large Skipper and a fresh Painted Lady plus a few Blue-tailed Damsels.
